Evaluation of the City College Norwich Magazine:

This is the evaluation for my second project for AS Level Media Studies “the college magazine”.
The ways in which my City College Magazine use and develop by gathering the real media is that I have use a layout for this magazine just like a real magazine in today’s world would use; this being by displaying the masthead at the top straight across, the most important articles in the left third of the magazine for the reason that if it would be displayed on a shelf it would catch more attention to the readers.
Also it has the main image in the centre of the magazine with articles that are inside of the magazine but are not so important to be in the left third. There is no skyline or cover lines in my magazine which is a shame because I did have a bit of space at the button and maybe I could have squeezed a skyline at the top however it does have a logo, bar code, date and price.
My City College Magazine represents a particular social group because its target audience is students age 16 to 24 therefore I aimed to for all the articles, images, photos, layouts and colors to be appealing to them.
The reasons why the two major magazine publishers might want to publish my magazine would be because it appeals to my target audience, they like the articles that I publish and overall it a is pretty good student magazine or I could publish on a online website such as issue for the reason that it is free therefore my readers could just on it whenever they would want and I would make my money in advertising.
By looking at my front cover and contents page of the City College Magazine I would say that I am happy with it as it was my first try of doing a college magazine even though it was only two pages but I recognize that I could have included maybe a bit more such as I could have used more than just that little “flower tattoo” from the psbrushes.net to give it a bigger edge, a pull quote and more images in the contents page.

These are my final drafts of my college magazine, which are the front page and the content page.

This is the first draft of what the college magazine could look like (the front cover), including, the skyline, main image, masthead, lead article, pull quote, the left third and the cover lines.

Journal Skills: Angelina Jolie effect

I downloaded the photo of Angelina Jolie to my documents and the opened it with Photoshop so I could do the changes to it. After what I did was that I changed the image to black and white and when that was done I got the navigator from the “window” and then I used it to get closer to the parts of the face that I was going put the colour back on.
Finally I putted the colour back on what I wanted and it was done.

Journal Skills: Pink effect

I downloaded the pink photo to my documents, and then I opened it with Photoshop so I could do the changes there. After I changed the image to black and white by going into image  adjustments  black and white.
When the image was black and white I added the text “Pink” and changed the colour to pink, saved it as a jpg and it was done.

This is my finished “product” of the cd album cover, as it shows above I used the of that I took of the graffiti in the wall near where I live with my model friend and basically what I did add the name of the cd on Photoshop and the track names and it was done.

Evaluations of the cd album cover:

The cd album cover was the first project that I did for my AS Level of Media Studies, I would say that for a start-up project it was simple to do, however I know that I didn’t use much Photoshop as I haven’t used it for about a year.
Also firstly I can say that I wanted the cd album cover to be very simple (and it was); for me I wanted to get used to the new software that I was being introduced by from my teacher. The reason why I decided to change my initially idea was because it wasn’t working out as I had planned.
What I think is good about my cd album cover is that it is simple however the background photo show a lot as it is a drawing “graffiti” on a wall nevertheless I know that the points where I could have had improved was if I had more practiced using the software “Photoshop” so I could try new techniques and ideas to improve the project a lot more.
Overall I can say that it is done, simple nonetheless it works for its purpose and it is also my first project. I can honestly say that it is alright for something that I did.

This is my second attempt of a drawing for the cd album cover in which I decided that the cd needed to have a bit more colour instead of being vastly simple. I also changed the name of the cd to “Random all the way” instead of being just “Random” because the cd is actually very random in all its aspects.
The background photos are a graffiti that I found near where I live and in the moment when I saw it I decided that it was going to be the image for the cd cover.

This was my first attempt of drawing the front and back cover for the album. It is very simple for the reason that it is a rough draft of what I first initially wanted to do.
Basically my initial idea for the CD cover was to have “the singer” with their back positioned against a brick all for the effect of the CD album cover to be urban. The back cover of the CD would be as well a brick all with just the track names.

CD back cover draft

The back cover draft for my CD album cover would is the one displayed above; I wanted the background to be a brick wall just like the front cover and the name of the CD in the same place. The few differences that I would have in the back cover would be that the track names would be in the back displayed nicely.

The writing font is the same as the front cover however at this stage the names of the tracks were not decided yet.

CD Cover

My first project for AS Media Studies was a cd album cover. This is my first draft of the front cover to see what it would look like.
The font that I used is comic sans ms regular size 36, the background is a brick wall because that was what I first wanted to do. The stick man in the middle of the cd cover would be the model for the cd cover. Both the stick man and the brick wall for the background are saved from google images.
The name of the cd is called Random because the actually music cd is about random songs that the artist writes. The  artist would be my model " a friend of mine".
